As of Wednesday, April 27th, over 200 students have signed to express their dissent.
We, the undersigned, object to Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s invitation of ExxonMobil’s CEO, Rex Tillerson, to speak at the senior class commencement on May fourteenth, 2011. This choice was made without the consultation of the majority of the senior class and does not represent the values embodied by our university. We require that, in future years, commencement speakers be chosen that reflect the preference of the students and faculty, so that graduation can truly be about celebrating the values of WPI community.
Senior Graduation Pledge
I, the undersigned, pledge to use the education I received while a student at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in a socially and environmentally responsible manner.
Thus, I pledge not to work to develop the expansion of polluting energy technologies through companies such as ExxonMobil.
Look for us in the Campus Center to sign it!
